Tuesday November 13th 2018 - Day 2616 My faith in pop is still devout

It has recently been announced that the 'Deluxe' version of Low In High School will be released on December 7th, and will feature three previously unreleased studio tracks: Lover-To-Be, Never Again Will I Be a Twin and This Song Doesn't End When It's Over, plus five live B-sides.

I am looking forward to hearing the three new songs, but have thus far resisted pre-ordering the 'clear and transparent magenta' Double LP with tee shirt from Mporium for 45. What is more, I still haven't purchased the This is Morrissey LP that was released a few months ago, and in fact, haven't actually purchased any records (or indeed CDs) whatsoever since All The Young People Must Fall In Love. I seem to have stopped buying records without even realising it, and yet my faith in pop is still devout, so what has happened I hear you cry?

Back in May 2016 I wrote how I still had a desire to own a physical copy of the music I listened to, but told how my kids weren't interested at all in owning a physical copy of a song, content instead with streaming from Spotify. In March of this year I wrote again about vinyl and streaming, stating that I had signed-up to Spotify, adding, "I can't ever imagine the day arriving when I stop buying vinyl" - and then, it would seem, I immediately stopped buying vinyl!

I guess the truth is, I very rarely play my record player anymore, and I no longer feel a need to 'collect' for collecting's sake; although I do still intend to buy Back on the Chain Gang and next year's Covers album on vinyl, and haven't ruled out buying This is Morrissey or the deluxe LIHS. I think I must be in some sort of transition. It isn't just records I seem to have stopped buying, I have also stopped buying 'stuff', and when I moved house in the Summer, I turfed out tons and tons of 'things'. Perhaps it's normal to minimalise as one gets older, although my mother doesn't seem to, she is surrounded by mountains of absolute nonsense. Oh, what a world we live in.

And on the subject of Oh What a World, although I have stopped buying records, I listen to music more than ever, and the one song that I just can't stop listening to is Rufus Wainwright's Oh What a World. Has Morrissey covered it for his new album? I really, really hope so.

In other news, following the publication of my previous blog entry; in which I wrote how I thought Morrissey had played Life is a Pigsty as a nod to Ian Long, I received an interesting response from Dan Abnormal, who may, or may not be, Ricky Gervais:

I read your theory Rat and wholeheartedly agreed.

Long, would have realised that the only difference between the victims he has been forced to kill, maim, and horrifically injure psychologically as well as physically over the years to include his massacre on home soil, was that his previous victims are said to be uncivilised scum of the earth, living in mud huts and reading the Quran word by word each and every day, whereas his victims closer to home are civilised innocents that didn't deserve this to happen to them.

Of course, there is no difference. Every single person that has been killed by the hands of Long, either directly or indirectly and to include himself are all victims.

"I carry out the powerful vulgarian view
I scatter glue*, do as I say, or I'll scatter you."

Long, was expected to suffer from PTSD in a quiet room alone and then silently creep away and take his own life. He thought otherwise. I firmly believe his intentions (although I do not agree with his actions), were to point out the above and to make the uneducated masses wake up and see what is really going on here.

Instead the war really will go on, what with dealing arms and trading commodities like gas and oil the western world will go on creating more atrocities like that in Syria. Damascus was a thriving cosmopolitan city until gas was found in the Mediterranean Sea, and the only route to get it to the western world was through Syria. However, Assad was friends with Putin, and the Russians of course had turned off the gas supply to Europe in the past. The solution was to arm the farmers and manual workers of Syria to help them revolt against the regime.

We will take what we want by whatever means we want! This was all cooked up of course forgetting that ISIS where licking their wounds and regrouping next-door in Iraq. Will we ever learn?

*The lyric is actually 'gloom' and not 'glue'.

That's all folks!
