Day 2320 - "No wages, no light, no heat, no food...oh"

Yesterday I made mention of the lyric change made by Morrissey in Berlin at the end of Spent the Day in Bed - "No wages, no light, no heat, no food...oh". Morrissey (as Morfessa) had hinted on Twitter yesterday morning, that there was a reason for this lyric change, but all I could think of was the song from the film Oliver! that I had tweeted last week. It was a very flimsy connection, and it turns out that I was very wrong.

Following on from me publishing yesterday's blog entry, Heather left this comment:

"Morrissey's "no wages" comment reminded me of this part of Review of the Reviewers, referenced in your previous blog entry:

"Besides, with winter coming, I need the coppers, what with the ever-rising overheads and severe levels of true inflation. At least Penguin Classics will guarantee a certain old pop singer, and now major author, won't have to switch the lights off early on his next self-financed South American tour, won't have to truncate set-lists, won't have to shiver, yet again, in the house all January."

I think M's comments (in Berlin) about the band members being expensive, when he introduced them, may have been related to that as well."

Eureka! I immediately asked Morfessa to let us know if Heather was right, and yesterday evening received this message:

"Clever Heather".

What genius! I had written and linked to the hilarious parody piece Review of the Reviewers on Tuesday, and then Morrissey, who had obviously re-read his own parody piece, referenced it live on stage in Berlin on Wednesday - Again, genius!....and yet NOBODY noticed it happen...except the vigilant Heather! If only people knew what was going on. This is art.



I again urge anyone reading this to read/re-read the Morrissey written parody, Review of the Reviewers, which was originally written on October 19th 2013, and posted on Day 764 of FTM. You must also read all the comments underneath - there is some comedy gold in there, plus this comment from Broken in reference to the MorrisseysWorld blog and Authobiography:

"The Blog is the Carry On to the book's Shelagh Delaney meets Oscar Wilde's slightly less witty younger brother. I personally think The Blog will be remembered long after the book fades into a distant memory!"

I really aught to dedicate a whole blog entry to those comments posted back in October 2013. I would have done it at the time, but events took over, and it just never happened.

NOWHERE NEAR THE CHARTS

ALL TRACKS ON BOWIE'S LOW ALBUM, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SOUND AND VISION, WHICH ALTHOUGH NOT ONE OF BOWIE'S GREATEST SONGS, IS BY FAR THE BEST SONG ON THIS DIRE ALBUM, WHICH BITCHY BOBBY NEVILLE THIS WEEK STATED WAS HIS FAVOURITE OF ALL TIME. I HAD NEVER LISTENED TO LOW BEFORE, BUT AFTER SUCH A STATEMENT FROM BBN, I FELT COMPELLED TO LISTEN, SO ON WEDNESDAY I DID, AND WAS SHOCKED AT JUST HOW SHIT IT IS. WHY AM I TYPING IN CAPITALS? WHY AM I EVEN MENTIONING THIS CRAPPY ALBUM?

Day 2390 - "The construction of genius"

As I counted down the ' Most Watched Morrissey Video Chart 2017 ' in The Wrong Arms yesterday afternoon, we were joined by the man himself (as Morfessa), although it was only very briefly. He tweeted, "I am not staying. I have people to offend", to which I replied, "Your full time occupation...you're good at it too!", and subsequently got the response, "I offended twenty people by the time I had gargled this morning." Before he disappeared, old Mozzer left this message for me via DM: "Stop your chart immediately. Good. The interview questions are being answered. Now continue. From Alf."
